Angelo Volpe
Angelo Volpe was President of Tennessee Tech University from 1987 to 2000.
A native of New York City, Dr. Angelo Volpe received his B.S. degree in chemistry from Brooklyn College in 1959. He received his M.S. in 1962 and the Ph.D. in 1966 in organic and polymer chemistry from the University of Maryland. Author of thirty publications in his filed, Dr. Volpe is nationally known as an outstanding chemist. He is a member of several professional chemical associations.
During Dr. Volpe's tenure, Tennessee Technological University saw its endowment grow from $1 million to $27 million, drew acclaim for its academic and athletic programs, and developed a sense of family and community.
He is married to the former Jennette Murray and continues to live in Cookeville, Tennessee. Dr. Volpe continues his service to the University by assisting with fund-raising and attending educational activities and events for current President Bell when Dr. Bell's schedule does not permit his attendance. He and his wife often make extended trips to New York to visit family and friends
Since his retirement in 2000 he has remained active in community and philanthropic endeavors such as serving on:
- The Cookeville Planning Commission
- The Fund-Raising Committee for the new building of Saint-Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church
- The Board of Trustees of Cookeville's First Tennessee Bank
- The Board of Trustees of the Upper Cumberland Public Broadcast Council (WCTE-TV)
- The Board of Trustees of Tusculum College
- The Board of Trustees of Cookeville's Crimestoppers
- The Board of Trustees of the Bryan Symphony Orchestra at Tennessee Technological University
- The NCAA Athletic Certification Committees (as Chairman) which certified athletic programs at Portland State University in Oregon, Appalachian State University in North Carolina, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Texas Southern University, and James Madison University
- The faculty of the New President's Academy of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and
- Has served as a fund-raising consultant for Oregon Institute of Technology
While he and his wife enjoy most sports, they are avid New York Yankees baseball fans. |
