The Distinguished
Lecture Series provides students and faculty with an opportunity
to interact with prominent executives for an open exchange
of views on current issues. Through this vital program, executives
are brought into the classroom to offer students first-hand
information about the complexities of the business world,
while inspiring them to seek new ways to meet the challenges
of tomorrow.
Tom Herman has over 10 years of technical assessment and
software development expertise. He was the Co-founder, and
Chief Technology Officer of govWorks, Inc., a NY-based company
that pioneered the global e-government marketplace. Under
Tom's guidance, govWorks designed, built, and launched the
proprietary e-commerce payment engine to serve the $500
billion municipal payments market. As CTO, Tom also led
govWorks through the due diligence process on dozens of
acquisition candidates, resulting in several consummated
corporate acquisitions. He was responsible for forging enterprise-wide
technical and product development partnerships, including
those with American Management Systems and Arthur Andersen.
Tom
previously served as a Senior Web Architect for TVisions,
Inc. in Cambridge, Massachusetts, a leading Web design firm
specializing in e-business solutions, undertaking responsibility,
for the development of Analog Device Inc.'s electronic product
catalog for engineers. He also served as the Executive Producer
for Arepa Inc., an e-commerce software leasing company based
in Cambridge. Tom has extensive experience in Internet-based
database interfaces, e-commerce solutions, content management
systems, business process re-engineering, and project management.
Tom is a pilot and an avid rock-climber. He is a graduate
of Bates College with a degree in Psychology and Computer
Science.
