Topping Hurts!- Branch Dissection: Video Vignette- (See it live!) A mature tree under a utility line has previously been topped. The new growth is crowded and overgrown on the topped branch stubs. We removed the stub and branch section and cut through it lengthwise to expose the internal wood. The branch stem has pockets of decay and is discolored in the wood tissue that was present at the time of the topping event. The new growth is sound and bright and has almost overgrown the decayed cavity, but there is very little sound branch attachment on the stub. These branches could easily be dislodged from the tree.
