About the Symposium: The General Services Administration (GSA) on consignment from the Environmental Protection Agency (Christian Daughton and Tammy Jones-Lepp, U.S. EPA, ORD/NERL-Las Vegas) contracted with Tennessee Technological University (TTU) to design, organize, and implement a major international symposium held in part on the Web as a virtual conference on the topic of "Environmental Aspects of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs)." The conference originated at the 228th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society in Philadelphia, PA, on August 25, 2004, and was included in programming plans of the Division of Environmental Chemistry, Inc. (ENVR), the prime sponsoring ACS division. Cosponsoring agreements were sought with other appropriate ACS divisions.

Wells of the TTU Water Center (TTU/WC), Robert Clougherty of the TTU Institute for Technological Scholarship (TTU/ITS), and Larry Keith of Instant Reference Sources, Inc. (IRS), in conjunction with ITS personnel Daniel Smithson, Fred Myers, and Jessie Holt, and other students and staff were responsible for implementing the symposium.
