Recent announcements (in November 2005) by GM that it will be laying off 1,500 jobs at Spring Hill and discontinuing one of its product lines point to inevitable change. Some industries, however, appear to have no fear of decline any time soon. Lynchburg’s Jack Daniel’s Distillery achieved international status and has become a tourist mecca. Tourism and the attraction of the Duck River will continue to play an important role in the region and the state’s history. |
