Details
TThis image was taken on November 5, 2023, using a Celestron C8 telescope mounted to a Skywatcher EQ6-R Pro. The camera used was a ZWO ASI 294MC camera cooled to 0oC to reduce thermal noise and covered by an Optalong L-Pro filter to reduce the effects of light pollution while allowing the wide range of wavelengths galaxies produce to pass through. The image was tracked using a Celestron OAG guider and a ZWO ASI 174 MM guide camera, which tracked the galaxy automatically with the Ekos imaging suite. A total of 44 images were taken but only 34 were used in the final product.
The images were preprocessed in Siril to remove biases and extract the background. Once processed, the images were stacked together in Siril as well. The stacked image was then stretched using an asinh and histogram stretch to bring out the galaxy, before having its noise reduced, color calibrated to match known stars, and color saturation increased to make fine details in the galaxy pop. Finally, the image was imported into GIMP, which was used to reduce the saturation of the outside stars separately to draw attention to the galaxy.
