Sagittarius -Emma Mitchell
Sagittarius, also known as the archer, is a centaur aiming an arrow at the constellation Scorpio (according to Greek mythology). A well-known asterism in Sagittarius is the teapot, which is pictured in the “connect the dots” image. Ptolemy, a Greek astronomer, was the first to record the constellation in the second century. Two notable stars in Sagittarius are Kaus Australis- which is a binary star system- and Nunki- which is a hydrogen fusing dwarf star. There are also five star clusters (Great Sagittarius Cluster- globular star cluster VII, M 28- globular star cluster IV, Butterfly Cluster- open star cluster III2p, Herschel 36- star cluster, and Ptolemy’s Cluster- open star cluster II2r) noted on the “connect the dots” image.

The camera lens combination for this frame is the Cannon T7i with the Photo Lens 35mm. Due
to the greenhouses in the foreground of the image, I was unable to stack all twenty of the photographs taken and keep the greenhouses from looking blurry. Instead, I chose the first two pictures taken in the sequence and used them to create my stacked image. I post-processed the image normalizing the coloration of the image. I exclusively used SiriL to process the wide field image.
