Tang: So today, what I am going to talk about is really some I am going to research that we have been doing at MIT regarding the product development. And as I go through the presentation, I will explain that why I am so passionate about this subject and why we are so keen in trying to improve it. A interest in improving not because, basically, believe or not, it is kind of the nerve engineer. But I think it has the fundamental input to our economy, job creation and really beneficial to our children. Actually, countries took conventional wisdom; product development is really the oldest profession. When caver first started really incremental using rocks to build adze and stone, actually they were building product. And the product is no more than creation of art effect that improve your life, improve your quality of life. So when caveman first built or cavewoman most likely who first did it, create the first adze, which comes from buffalo or bear, whatever it was, actually they were using their product to improve their lives. That is what the product development means. So product development really began from very early in the civilization. In effect, I believe that it is the distinguished characteristic that human being has from other norms of lives because we create things to improve our own lives for our species, and that really is the fundamental and profound aspect of product development. Product development is also something profound and useful in the business corp. You see, here. That is the first instance really of manager taking credit for the invention that was made by that person. Product development is important because you think about it, the amount of fund that spent in the product development in the US economy is really huge. These data is a little really updated, but in 1998, total expenditure of R&D product development is $230 billion. We are kind of jaded of what the billion is. Think about it, you know how many second there are in a year? I have the number here, 32 million. So 32 billion second is1000 years. So if you spend one dollar in one second, to spend $230 billions will take 7000 year, huge number. What are you doing with this number? One of things we are doing is with a product that we develop and R&D with export. An export, of course, produces income, job and profit for everybody, that is engage in the process of D.C. economy. So we export about $130 billion in a year. That is good. So the important to improve our well being is pretty clear. Next thing, although we spent a lot of money in the product development, we generate a lot of exports. You are seeing here it is really the number of patents that being generated in the United States of product development. They have exceeded 100,000 of patents. But it is really not so comfortable for us in US for engaging in this process is you look at the percentage of patents that are giving to US investors in US is really in declined percentage. So a lot of innovations which has been created in the United States through R&D given to investors who are not from American companies these innovations go to overseas.
