Football team to play at Georgia and Kansas State

Golden Eagle football fans – are you ready for a couple of exciting road trips? The Golden Eagles will play at Kansas State University in September, and at the University of Georgia in November.

The game against K-State of the Big 12 Conference was Saturday, Sept. 26, at Bill Snyder Family Stadium in Manhattan, Kan. For the Wildcats, the contest against Tech fell between a road game at UCLA and a neutral site Big 12 conference opener against Iowa State in Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium. Tech fell 49-7.

The game against Georgia of the Southeastern Conference is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7, at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Ga. For the Bulldogs, the contest is sandwiched between games against SEC rivals Florida and Auburn.

Tech is a member of the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Golden Eagles played at Auburn in 2007, Tech’s first game against an SEC opponent since facing both Vanderbilt and Tennessee in 1951. The contest at Auburn drew a crowd of 85,754, the largest crowd to see an Ohio Valley Conference team play football.

Last year, Tech played two FBS foes, visiting both Louisville and Western Michigan.

“These games are exciting for our players,” said Golden Eagle head coach Watson Brown. “They really enjoy them. We want to play these types of games every year. These kinds of games can keep football on solid ground and also benefit all of athletics financially. The times have made it to where we need to do this to help out the total athletic program.

“Our players really have fun when we play games at places like this. They get a chance to play against great players and see how they measure up.”

Director of Athletics Mark Wilson said the games are good for Tech’s fans, as well as the players.

“It’s great for Golden Eagle football to be able to play BCS opponents from conferences such as the SEC and Big 12,” Wilson said. “Our players love playing these types of games against high-profile opponents in large venues, and it will also be a great experience for our fans.”

Ticket information for the Georgia game, as well as Tech’s home games in Tucker Stadium, is available at TTUSports.com.
