Approval of Agenda as Revised

Dr. Bailey requested the agenda be revised by adding a statement by Dr. Barker as item #2, and Prof. Tolbert as item #18 with a General Education Revision.

Motion.  Dr. Peach moved to approve the agenda as revised.  The motion was seconded by Dr. Wilson and carried.

2003-04 Agenda on Web   

Dr. Barker informed the committee that starting Fall 2003, agenda items for the committee will be submitted via the web.  Prior to the first meeting in the fall, Ms. Winningham will send directives on how this will be handled.

Approval of Course Change and 120-hour Curricula for the Department of Sociology & Philosophy 

In a memorandum dated April 24, approval was requested for the following course change and 120-hour curricula for the Department of Sociology and Philosophy.  (Proposal on file in the Office of the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.)

Motion.  Dr. Stanger moved to approve the change and 120-hour curricula.  The motion was seconded by Dr. Williams and carried.

Approval of 120-Hour Curricula from the Department of Curriculum & Instruction 

    In memorandums dated April 16 and 22, approval was requested for the 120-hour
curricula in Multidisciplinary Studies General-Non Licensure Program and SEED:  French 7-12,
German 7-12, and Spanish 7-12.  (A corrected copy of the proposals are on file in the
Office of the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.)

    Motion.  Dr. Peach moved to approve the 120-hour curricula as corrected, effective Fall 2003. 
The motion was seconded by Dr. Loutzenheiser and carried.

    In a memorandum dated April 21, approval was requested for the 120-hour curricula in
the Department of Political Science.  (A corrected copy of the proposal is on file in the
Office of the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs.)

    Motion.  Dr. Stephens moved to approve the changes effective Fall 2003.  The motion was

    In a memorandum dated April 23, approval was requested for the 120-hour curricula for the 
College of Business Administration, including World Cultures and Business.

    Motion.  Dr. Niebuhr moved to approve the 120-hour curricula as corrected, effective 
Fall 2003.  The motion was seconded by Dr. Stephens and carried.

    In a memorandum dated April 8, approval was requested for the 120-hour curricula for
 the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering.

    Motion.  Dr. Matson moved to approve the 120-hour curricula as submitted, effective 
Spring 2004 and contingent upon the approval of ENGR 2121.  The motion was seconded
by Dr. Loutzenheiser and carried.

Approval of Course Addition from the Basic  Engineering Program  

    In a memorandum dated April 29, approval was requested for the following:

    Course Addition:  
    ENGR 2121  Engineering Applications in C                Lec. and Lab. 2, Cr. 1
    Prerequisites:  ENGR 1120 and MATH 1920.  C language programming for
    engineering applications.  Effective use of functions, arrays, pointers, and data 
    structures.  Modular program design.  Program validation and documentation.

    Motion.  Dr. Loutzenheiser moved to approve the addition effective Fall 2004.  The motion
was seconded by Dr. Wilson and carried.

Approval of 120-Hour Curricula from the  Department of English  

    In a memorandum dated April 22, approval was requested for the 120-hour curricula
for the BA in English (Literature and Writing)  from the Department of English.

    Motion.  Dr. Eisen moved to approve the 120-hour curricula effective Fall 2004.  The motion was seconded by Dr. Shriner and carried.

    In a memorandum dated April 22, approval was requested for the 120-hour curricula for the Department of Mathematics.

    Motion.  Dr. Ablamowicz moved to approve the 120-hour curricula as corrected, effective 
Fall 2004.  The motion was seconded by Dr. Eisen and carried.

General Education Core Revision  

    Prof. Tolbert distributed a revision in wording for the Humanities portion of the General Education
Core requirements:

    From:  Humanities and/or Fine Arts (9 hours) 
               One Literature Course-2130, 2230, or 2330

    To:      Humanities and/or Fine Arts (9 hours)
               at least one literature course selected from 2130, 2230, or 2330

Dr. Loutzenheiser commended Dr. Bailey in her service as chairperson.
