PROCEEDINGS

Approval of Agenda as Revised

Items 24 and 25 of the agenda were requested to be moved to items 4 and 5.
Motion.  Dr. Stanger moved to approve the agenda as revised.  The motion was seconded by Dr. Loutzenheiser and carried.

Approval of December 8, 2005 Minutes as Corrected

Dr. Jordan requested that the following course numbers be corrected:
    EXPW 3010 to EXPW 3011
    EXPW 4010 to EXPW 4011
    EXPW 4020 to EXPW 4021

The department has decided not to change the physical activity courses discipline from PHED to EXPW as presented at the December meeting.

Motion.  Dr. Loutzenheiser moved to approve the minutes as corrected.  The motion was seconded by Dean Faw and carried.

Effective Date of Curricula Changes

Prof. Tolbert stated that closer attention needs to be made regarding the effective dates of curricula changes submitted from departments.  Departments are submitting changes with effective dates as either immediately or one or two semesters ahead.  These effective dates can go into the system as requested for this meeting, but cannot go onto the Graduation Worksheet change in the curricula.  The Graduation Worksheet curricula needs to be effective with a catalog.  She asked that any changes that go through, which will affect your curriculum worksheets, are with each catalog.

Prof. Tolbert stated she would like to work toward curriculum changes being concurrent with a catalog.  The catalog will be effective each fall and curriculum changes for the catalog should be in by the November meeting of the prior year, so all spring changes will go in a year later.  Under extreme circumstances, an exception to this could be requested.  She stated that the changes at this meeting, with the exception of the "clean-up" items, will go in the 2007 catalog and will not be included in the current Graduation Worksheet curricula.

Discussion focused on the PDF (official) and html (revisions) web versions.  A suggestion was made to move the html version to a different site, but only accessible to Tech personnel.  Departments need to keep their majors notified of curriculum changes not yet in the catalog.

Prof. Tolbert thanked the committee and stated this catalog issue will be looked into further.

Approval of Course Addition from the Department of Earth Sciences

In a memorandum dated February 6, 2006, approval was requested for the following:

Effective:  Summer 2006

Motion.  Dr. Knox moved to approve the course addition pending TBR approval as a social and behavioral science General Education core course.  The motion was seconded by Dr. Eisen.  If this course is not approved by TBR as a General Education core course, it will not go into the Earth Science curriculum.

A vote was taken and the motion carried.
