Approval of Agenda as Revised

Dr. Peach requested to revise the agenda as follows:  add another memorandum from the Department of Health and P.E. to item #4; move item #14 to be considered with item #4; to other such matters add a memorandum from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction.

Approval of February 21, 2002 Minutes

Motion .  Dr. Elsawy moved to approve the February 21 minutes as submitted.  The motion was seconded by Dr. Faw and carried.

Approval of Course and Prerequisite Addition from the Department of Political Science

In a memorandums dated March 26, and April 1, 2002, approval was requested for the following:

Course Addition  

POLS 4950.  Political Participation Internship.  Directed study and research while serving as an intern in a political  party.  (Note:  no more than 6 hours my be counted as  "approved courses" in major.)

Motion.  Dr. Williams moved to approve the addition effective April 18, 2002.  The motion was seconded by Dr. Northrup and carried.

Prerequisite Addition

Addition:  to all POLS upper division courses with the exception of POLS 3400 (this Gender and Politics which  which is designed for both majors and non-majors with no background in the discipline) the prerequisite of "POLS 2210 or consent of instructor."  This is to replace the  existing prerequisites in POLS 391 and POLS 436, respectively.

Motion.  Dr. Williams moved to approve the addition.  The motion was seconded by Dr. Shriner and carried.

Approval of Course Addition from the Department of Chemistry

In a memorandum dated March 28, 2002, approval was requested for the following:

Course Addition

CHEM 1210  Chemistry for the Life Sciences-Fall/Spring.  Lec. 4, Lab. 0, Cr. 4.
Introduction to chemical principles and their applications to health and disease, which will include chemical structures, moles, organic chemistry, and bio-chemistry.  A knowledge of general mathematics is needed for the use of conversion factors, making of solutions, calculation of dosages, and dilutions.  This will not
count as part of a chemistry sequence.

Motion.  Dr. Northrup moved to approve the addition effective Fall 2002.  The motion was seconded by Dr. Loutzenheiser.

As this course is designed for nursing students, it was agreeable with Dr.  Northrup  to add this course to the statement at the beginning of the chemistry course descriptions in the catalog (pg. 176).  The revised catalog statement will read:
    "Chemistry majors may not earn credit in both CHEM 101 and 111, or both CHEM 
    102 and 112.  Credit will not be given for both CHEM 131 and any of the above
    courses. Credit will not be given for both CHEM 1210 and any of the above 
    courses."

A vote was taken and the motion carried.

Election of 2002-2003 Chairperson

The nominating committee was composed of Dr. Loutzenheiser, Dr. Brinker, and Ms. Galloway.  Dr. Loutzenheiser announced that the committee wished to nominate Dr. Sue Bailey as the 2002-2003 chairperson.  

Dr. Peach opened the floor for further nominations.

Motion.  Dr. Bode moved that nominations cease and that Dr. Bailey be elected by acclamation.  The motion was seconded and carried.

Dr. Peach extended his appreciation to Ms. Luegge for her assistance to the committee.

On behalf of the Curriculum Committee, Dr. Loutzenheiser extended a thank you to Dr. Peach for his service as chair.
