Report on Approval of Changes to Curriculum Committee Procedures
Prof. Tolbert reported the Curriculum Committee Procedure changes proposed to the Administrative Council were approved. See changes in Bold.
| II. | PHILOSOPHY - The curriculum Committee of Tennessee Technological University strongly affirms that the curricula of all credit-bearing programs devolve from the faculty. Each unit or departmental faculty approves proposals as a committee of the whole or as faculty representatives on a curriculum committee. Approved proposals are forwarded to the college curriculum committee and, if approved there, to the Curriculum Committee of Tennessee Technological University for final approval. |
| IX. | AMENDMENT OF PROCEDURES: These procedures can be amended at any regular meeting of the Committee by a majority vote of the total membership, provided that the amendment has been submitted in writing to each member at least one week prior to the meeting. Amendments to Procedures are subject to final approval by the Academic Council. |
| X. | COMMITTEE ACTION AND REVIEW: Actions of this Committee are subject to review by the Academic Council and approval by the President. All new programs are referred to Academic Council and University Assembly for action. |

in an alternative national setting is an extremely powerful method of
learning. The aim of the course is to introduce a global business approach
to students. Topics covered include social and cultural differences,
national and regional political forces that influence business practices, and
the internal economic environment and its impact on marketing, finance,
organizational structure, and operations of businesses in the host country
(countries).
Approval of Course Addition from the Department of Decision Sciences and Management

A minor in Business shall consist of ACCT 3720, BMGT 3510, MKT 3400, FIN 3210, and LAW 3810. Students must also complete ECON 2010-20 for the Social Science component of their General Education requirements or as General Electives.
Motion. Dr. Niebuhr moved to approve the definition of a minor in Business, effective Summer 2005. The motion was seconded by Dr. Stephens and carried.
Approval of Course Addition from the Department of History
In a memorandum dated April 7, 2005, approval was requested for the following:
Course Addition:
HIST 4470 (5470) Sports

4470/5470 twice, provided that the topic is different each time.
Prerequisites: HIST 2010, HIST 2020, HIST 2410 and/or permission of the
instructor. HIST 2010 and HIST 2020 are introductory courses to American
history and are required of most students at TTU. These courses provide an
overview of the central themes and issues in American history, and provide the
student with the basic background essential in making historical
connections. HIST 2410 is a course in historical methods that introduces
students to the field of history, how historians do their work, how to study and
research, and, among other advantages, how to prepare historical writings.

Approval of Curriculum Changes from the Department of English
In a memorandum dated March 31, 2005, approval was requested for the following:
SUBJECT: Clarification and Change for the English-Communications Professional Communication Curriculum (to be effective immediately) This proposal will not create any costs.
I. Clarification
Currently, the catalog does not specify what foreign
language courses are required for English-Communication Professional
Communication majors; the catalog states that just six hours are required.
An asterisk should be added next to the foreign language hours stating that any six hours of foreign language courses will fulfill the requirement.
II. Change in Humanities/Fine Arts RequirementCurrently, both the Public Service Writing and Scientific and Technical Writing options for the Professional Communication concentration under the English-Communications Bachelor of Science include six hours of Humanities courses. Because nine hours are now required by TBR, another three-hour course needs to be added. The change would appear as follows:
FROM: Humanities Fine Arts Elective (3 hrs)
TO: Humanities Fine Arts Electives (6 hrs)
World Literature (ENGL 2330) is required already under the thirty hours of English and constitutes the remainder of the Humanities requirement.
The above change would apply to both options.
As a result of this change, general elective hours will need to decrease by three. This change would appear as follows:
Public Service Writing OptionFROM: Electives (12 hrs)
TO: Electives
(9 hrs)
Scientific and Technical Writing Option
FROM: Electives (9 hrs)
TO: Electives (6 hrs)
Motion. Dr. Eisen moved to approve the changes effective immediately. The motion was seconded by Dr. Faw and the motion carried.
