Two full-time, nine-month, tenure-track positions available in the specialty of medical-surgical nursing (other specialty areas may be considered) to begin August 1, 2003.   

Tennessee Technological University is located on the picturesque Cumberland Plateau, in Cookeville, a city of 35,000 located midway between Nashville and Knoxville.

The University enrolls approximately 8,900 students in the Colleges of Agriculture and Human Ecology, Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, and the School of Nursing, awarding bachelors degrees in more than 50 fields of study, masters degrees in 22 fields of study, a Specialty in Education Degree, and Doctor of Philosophy Degrees in Engineering, Environmental Science and Exceptional Learning.

Founded in 1980, the School of Nursing baccalaureate degree program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Committee, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and maintains full approval by the Tennessee Board of Nursing. Approximately two hundred students are enrolled in pre-nursing. Upper Division Nursing consists of generic BSN students and RN/BSN completion students averaging 40 graduates per year. Clinical experiences are in the local community hospitals, health departments, schools, community mental health centers, and other community agencies. Opportunities exist for both rural and urban experiences. Occasionally students and faculty travel to a metropolitan area, 80-100 miles for clinical experiences.

QUALIFICATIONS: Position 1: A doctorate in nursing or related area is required; consideration will be given to doctoral candidates. A master’s degree in nursing and current clinical experience is required in medical-surgical nursing. Position 2: A master’s degree in nursing and current clinical experience is required in medical-surgical nursing.  A doctorate in nursing or related area is preferred.  For both positions, prior teaching in a BSN program is desirable. Current or eligibility for Tennessee Registered Nurse licensure is required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsibilities include classroom and clinical teaching with a commitment to clinical excellence. In addition, academic advisement, scholarly activities and university and community service are a part of the faculty role. There is strong University support for the utilization of technology to include web-based courses and distance learning.  Also, opportunities to establish and maintain community-based practice in inter-disciplinary settings.

RANK AND SALARY: Appointment will be at the academic rank commensurate with preparation and experience.  Salary and benefits are competitive and based on experience and qualifications.
