This
is full-time, tenure-track position to begin August 1, 2003.
Tennessee
Technological University is a constituent university of the Tennessee Board of
Regents with an enrollment of 8,900 students. Accredited by the National
Association of Schools of Music, the Department of Music and Art has 24
full-time music faculty, 160 music majors, and offers the Bachelor of Music
Education and the Bachelor of Music in Performance, with options in composition,
instrumental and vocal music, jazz, and piano.
A Master of Arts in education is offered collaboratively with the College
of Education. The University is located in Cookeville, a city of 26,000 midway
between Nashville and Knoxville. Cookeville's
cultural offerings include theater, a PBS and NPR affiliate, museums, libraries,
art galleries, and the Bryan Symphony Orchestra.
QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree
(or equivalent) required, doctorate preferred. University teaching experience desired.
Evidence of ability to develop, administer, and maintain a university
orchestra program. Evidence of
effective teaching, successful orchestral conducting, and outstanding musical
artistry. Recent and significant
professional and/or university experience with a strong record of recruiting,
professional activity and achievement as a conductor preferred.
Experience working with community arts organizations preferred.
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS: Direct and administer the University orchestra program.
Other classroom and studio responsibilities (cello/string bass desired)
as determined by candidate’s qualifications and departmental needs.
Active involvement in recruiting majors to the program.
Build and maintain relationships with public school orchestra programs.
Creative/scholarly activity in candidate’s specialty area and service
contributions appropriate for a university faculty member.
Serve
as musical director for the Bryan Symphony Orchestra, a professional caliber
orchestra and member of the American Symphony Orchestra League, comprised of
university faculty, students, and professional string performers. Position
involves administrative responsibilities associated with a subscription series
and community outreach activities.
