Tennessee Technological
University invites applications and nominations for the position of Associate
Dean of Arts and Sciences. The College of Arts and Sciences enrolls
approximately 1,600 of TTU's 8,900 students. The College offers 18 Bachelor
degree programs, numerous pre-health programs, five Master’s degree programs,
and a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Earned doctorate with tenure as an Associate Professor or Professor in a
discipline offered by the College required; degree in a natural science
or mathematics preferred. Successful university teaching experience, including
student advising, required. Demonstrated commitment to affirmative action
and equal opportunity. Position requires demonstrated leadership and management
skills, including experience in working with budget reports and scheduling. He
or she must have interpersonal skills to be able to interact effectively with
certain individuals and groups whose cooperation is essential: the Provost's
office; the admissions, records and budget staff; the College chairs; and the
Dean of the College.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assists the Dean in meeting the goals and objectives of the College. Monitors
all financial accounts in the College, including grants, to insure compliance
with University policies and procedures. Assists the Dean by assuming
responsibility for checking and promptly forwarding administrative paperwork.
Supervises the screening and awarding of scholarships administered at the
College level. Provides recommendations for students seeking readmission, course
substitution, and curriculum deviations. Assists the Dean in the preparation of
budget recommendations and of the College's annual report. Serves as the College
reference point on matters of research and graduate studies. Participates
actively on all assigned University and College committees. Supports the overall
effectiveness of the office of the Dean by maintaining cordial and professional
relationships with all individuals making contact with the office. Provides
general administrative assistance that allows the Dean to concentrate on
priority matters.
SALARY AND RANK:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
