ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR  OF CHORAL/ GENERAL MUSIC EDUCATION – Department of Music and Art

This is a full-time (nine-month), tenure-track position to begin August 1, 2003.

Tennessee Technological University is a constituent university of the Tennessee Board of Regents with an enrollment of 8,900 students. Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, the Department of Music and Art has 24 full-time music faculty, 160 music majors, and offers the Bachelor of Music in Music Education and the Bachelor of Music in Performance, with options in composition, instrumental and vocal music, jazz, and piano. A Master of Arts in Education is offered collaboratively with the College of Education. The University is located in Cookeville, a city of 35,000 midway between Nashville and Knoxville. Cookeville’s cultural offerings include theatre, a PBS and NPR affiliate, museums, libraries, art galleries, and the Bryan Symphony Orchestra.

QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree (or equivalent) required, doctorate preferred. Doctorate required for appointment at Associate Professor rank. An exemplary record of at least three years full-time relevant P-l2 school music teaching is required. College-level teaching experience required for appointment at Associate Professor rank and preferred for appointment at Assistant Professor. Experience with the use of computer and multimedia technology in teaching and a commitment to diversity are required. The successful candidate will be active in research, publication, and professional presentations, and will have demonstrated leadership in music education.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Duties to include elementary and secondary methods courses for music majors and music applications course for elementary education majors. Supervise school-based field experiences throughout the choral/general music curriculum. Additional duties include advising music education majors, building and maintaining professional relationships with public school music teachers, and recruiting majors to the program. Other classroom responsibilities determined by candidate's qualifications and departmental needs.

RANK AND SALARY:  Assistant or Associate Professor.  Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
