SPECIALIST – CHILD CARE ASSESSOR (2 positions) - Upper Cumberland Child Care Resource Center (UC-CCRC)

These
are full-time, grant-funded positions. Continuation beyond June 30, 2003,
dependent upon grant renewal.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Bachelor's degree in Child
and Family Studies, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special
Education, Human Ecology, or related field.
Experience in professional childcare or related area.
Knowledge of child development and appropriate child care classroom
practices, state child care licensing regulations, developmentally appropriate
practices (DAP) for young children, and best practices supporting inclusion.
Proficiency in basic computer skills. Valid Tennessee driver's license.
Competent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to organize and manage
time independently, and flexibility to allow working with child care providers'
schedules. Preferred: Experience with Environmental Rating Scales (ECER-S,
ITERS, SACERS or FDCRS).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
This position reports to the Assessment Unit Coordinator of the UC-CCRC project
and performs the following duties: Conducts
assessments of child care centers and family and group homes in Tennessee using
the appropriate environmental rating instruments and the timely submission of
documentation on completed assessments. Achieves
reliability during initial probationary period and then maintains reliability on
the ECERS-R, ITERS, FDCRS and/or SACERS. Conducts discussions with classroom
teachers and/or directors regarding assessments.
Responds to questions from local unit, SWORPS program management or DHS
licensing staff regarding assessment results and scores. Completes all necessary
documentation of scores for rating scales and accompanying notes to reflect
rationales for scores given on each particular item.
Attends regional and/or State meetings as determined by supervisor.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Performs other duties as required.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits
include the accumulation of two vacation days per month and one sick leave day
per month, and thirteen (13) University holidays. Other benefits include medical
and life insurance (shared cost with the university), retirement, optional 401k
and educational benefits.
