Electrical outages scheduled

As part of the university's improvements to our primary electrical distribution system, a main campus-wide electrical outage is scheduled for half of the day on Saturday, May 10.

The outage will start at daybreak and extend until noon. Temporary overhead wiring will be installed near the generators on Stadium Drive to allow new equipment to be installed on Tech's underground electrical wiring. Electricity is expected to be restored prior to noon if all goes well.

Athletic facilities and Tech Village Apartments are not on the main campus electrical distribution system and will have electricity.

Tech maintenance workers will be available for any problems when electricity is restored.

This work is intended to provide a more reliable electrical service when campus failures occur. The main campus will be divided in half for quickly restoring electricity to half the campus after campus-wide failures.

Some much shorter electrical outages are also scheduled for May 5 and 6, for less than an hour each between 6 and 7 a.m. unless weather impacts the work. These outages will impact all buildings around the Quad and south of William L. Jones Blvd., East Dorms, and the University Services Building. These buildings will have electricity during the day and night.

These outages will allow Cookeville Electric Department workers safer conditions for improving our electrical distribution system. If weather impacts the work, it may be rescheduled for the following day.

If you have special equipment or research projects underway during the semester break, please make arrangements for continued electrical suppliy during these scheduled outages.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact Larry Wheaton at lwheaton@tntech.edu or call 3589.
