SOCIOLOGY OF THE INTERNET

Objectives:

The objective of this course is to explore the internet as it relates to sociology. We will accomplish this by debating controversial sociological issues related to the internet and by discussing similar topics on a class Webboard. Students will also discuss interesting websites and present them to the class and will develop a Website for a non-profit organization. We will also work on a website for student sociological research nationwide.

Methods and Requirements:

This course will use active learning strategies. This course will be a partnership between you the students and me the facilitator. Students are expected to take responsibility for their own learning. Each student will be responsible for leading one class session. However, all students are responsible for each class session. Therefore, attendance and class participation are mandatory. Points will be deducted for absences. Tardiness will be considered an absence. Points may also be deducted for non-participation. It is necessary that each student participate to the fullest extent in all classroom activities and assignments. Each time a student misses they are expected to complete a typed 2 page paper adequately covering the subject which they missed.
