Objectives:

The first objective of this course is to increase our understanding or organizations. The second objective of this course is to develop an understanding of the impact of organizations impact on society and the impact of society on organizations. Finally, we want to understand how organizations impact our own lives.

Methods and Requirements:

This course is going to use active learning strategies. This course will be a partnership between you the students and me the facilitator. Students are expected to take responsibility for their own learning. Therefore, attendance and class participation are mandatory. Points will be deducted for absences. Tardiness will be considered an absence. Points may also be deducted for non-participation. Students are required to submit a minimum of a two page typed paper on the topic covered that day for each absence. These papers should be posted to the class newsgroup.

Exams will come from both assigned readings and class discussions.

Make-up exams will only be given at the discretion of the instructor. The instructor reserves the right to administer a different type of test when a make-up test is given. It is necessary that each student participate to the fullest extent in all classroom activities, assignments and tests.

Evaluation Procedure:

A grade for the course will be given upon satisfactory completion of course requirements (see below). The semester grade for this class will be based approximately on the following:

Newsgroup Postings   15%
