Sigma Xi Science and Engineering Fair Award

The TTU Chapter of Sigma Xi has revived its involvement in the Cumberland Plateau Regional Science and Engineering Fair which is held annually on the TTU campus.  The description of the Award, as established at our February, 2001, meeting is as follows:

Time and Place of Presentation:   Annually at the Cumberland Plateau Regional Science and Engineering Fair (held in March).

Substance of Award:  A notification to be given at the Fair, a plaque for the student, a second plaque to be displayed in the student’s school, and invitations to the student and her/his parents and faculty advisor (up to four people) to attend the TTU Sigma Xi Spring Banquet (usually in April) as guests of the Chapter.  The plaques will be presented at the banquet.  Instructions to the winner regarding the plaques and dinner should be given at the Fair as part of the notification.  Estimated cost to the Chapter is $200 per year.

Criteria for Award:  An outstanding science or/and engineering project, with preference for an interdisciplinary project.

Judge(s):  One or two members of the TTU Sigma Xi Chapter, appointed by the Chapter President.

 

The winner of the Award for 2001 is Mr. Andrew Semmes of Cookeville High School (CHS), for his project, Mathematical Modeling of Disease:  When Should Putnam County Schools be  Closed due to Illness?


The winner of the Award for 2004 is Ms. Leann Little of Clarkrange High School, for her project, Biodiversity of Strongyle Species in Equids:  Constant Ivermectin vs Absence of Deworming Regimen.

 

The winner of the Award for 2005 is Ms. Christine Li of Cookeville High School, for her project,
Analysis of Macroinvertebrate Population and Diversity with Hydrological Parameters and Their Influence on Water Quality - Phase 3:  Watershed Study.

 

The winner of the Award for 2006 is Ms. Ying Fan of Cookeville High School, for her project, A Quantitative Assay of Food-Borne Bacteria in Pre-Packaged Fresh-Cut Produce.

 

The winner of the Award for 2007 is Mr. Richard Lee of Cookeville High School, for her project, Effects of Land Use on Three Watersheds--Year 2.
