Transfer Student Application Information

To be considered for scholarships at TTU, you must:

Step 1 - Apply for admission and scholarships by December 15, 2008

Step 2 - Apply for scholarships.

Agriculture Human Ecology
Chemistry/Health Sciences Music
Computer Science Physics
Engineering Special Education
History

If you plan to major in an area other than one listed above, please complete the hard copies of the general goals statement and appropriate department form found under current student application forms at www.tntech.edu/scholarships/forms.html.  Mail or e-mail these forms as attachments to Scholarship Manager.

Step 4 - Complete the Financial Aid Estimate Form

(www.finaid.org/calculators/finaidestimate.phtml) for all financial need-based scholarships. See department checklists for your major to determine if you need to submit this information.

We use this estimator exclusively for awarding TTU scholarships. All other forms of financial aid at TTU require completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The estimator does not replace the need for the FAFSA, so make sure you complete a copy as soon as they become available (January 1).

A. Why do we require the estimator? The FAFSA is not available before our December 15 deadline. Many of our awarding departments will be reviewing and making selections before most students have returned all the official FAFSA information.

B. How do I complete the estimator? First, carefully read all “instructions” provided at the Financial Aid Estimation Form web site. Second, gather all recent pay stubs or your previous year’s income tax statements. Third, as you begin completing the form, make sure you choose Federal Methodology and Summary Output.  Also make sure “Number in College” is at least one or you will not get a calculated result. Fourth, submit your results (only the first three pages) to TTU Scholarship Manager using one of the following methods:

  • Print out a hard-copy of your results and mail to the address provided for Scholarship Manager.
  • Save a copy to your personal computer or disk, then attach it as an e-mail to the Scholarship Manager.

C. Do I have to submit all result pages? If you have chosen "Summary Output," your total results should be printed within the first three pages. That is all we need in order to calculate your financial need.

D. How do we calculate your need? We subtract your total estimated family contribution from the estimated cost of attendance which can be found at our Financial Aid web site.

E. What if I have special circumstances? If necessary, you may include a separate statement explaining any special circumstances that may pertain to your financial need. We will forward those to the appropriate departments.  It will then be up to the individual department whether or not they will consider your explanation.

NOTE: Since the Financial Aid Estimator is not a TTU web site, but a federal web site, we have no control over maintenance issues if the system is down. To avoid problems, please complete the estimation as early as reasonably possible.

Step 5 - Submit any additional materials
required such as letters of recommendation, portfolios, resumes, research papers, etc. to the address provided for Scholarship Manager. See department checklists for your major to determine if you need to submit this information.

  • You must be, or plan to be, enrolled full-time (12 hours)
  • You must be, or plan to be, a major in that department
  • You must have submitted all necessary documents, especially transcripts and ACT (SAT) scores

If you are selected to receive a scholarship, you will be notified by the department awarding the scholarship.

All scholarships should be awarded by March 15 so our Financial Aid Office may incorporate this information into your complete financial aid package.
