President’s Comments
President Bell welcomed members and guests to the meeting.
President Bell announced that U.S. News and World Report released its annual rankings and TTU was
listed among the top public universities in the South. Tech is tied at 11th for the top public
universities in the South and 33rd among public and private universities. Tech is also included again in Princeton Review’s list of the “
Enrollment at the end of the fifth day of classes, September 1, was a record high at 9,671.
Winners in decorating for Awesome Office were Loan Accounting for door decorations, and Student Affairs and the Library earned the prizes for small and large offices respectively.
At the University-wide faculty meeting, three campus-wide initiatives were announced. Each of these initiatives is supported by recent administrative appointments. Dr. Claire Stinson is the Vice President for Business and Fiscal Affairs. Dr. Stinson has been asked to spearhead the budget initiative. Dr. Susan Elkins is now the Vice President for Extended Programs and Regional Development. Dr. Elkins will focus on education access, another of our campus initiatives. Mr. Mark Hutchins is the Vice President for University Advancement. As a certified fund raising executive, Mr. Hutchins will develop and expand long-range fund raising for the third of our initiatives.
President Bell announced that employees July paycheck reflected the 2% across-the- board increase. Also, in October, full time employees will receive a $350 bonus, and permanent part-time employees will receive a percentage of the $350 based on their FTE. Also, the state budget included an increase in the 401K matching program — bringing the match to $40 per month.
The 2nd Annual Nolan Fowler Constitution Day will be held on September 19. Mark Graber will present “Now More than Ever: Expanding, Protecting, and Contracting civil Liberties in Wartime” at 7 p.m., in Derryberry Hall Auditorium.

they play MTSU on Thursday, September 14, at MTSU. Also on September 21, ESPNU will televise the
TTU Eagles hosting
Construction for the new nursing facility has begun. Hardeway Construction Company was awarded the building contract. A groundbreaking ceremony will be held in the next couple of months. Opening date for the building remains targeted for 2008.
