The administration is tightening the budget for future expenditures. A proposal to administer summer school on a cost basis is being reviewed. This conservative approach could result in a savings of $700,000 for the University.
Events scheduled for December include the Clerical and
Support Recognition Luncheon on December 6 and Fall Commencement on December 18
with Regent Stanley Rogers serving as speaker.
Ms. Pogue began the update by reporting that the TBR has revamped the classification compensation plan for clerical and support positions. The restructure includes the expansion of skill levels from 9 to 15 and also revamps the job title system by reducing the number of titles to the 30 most frequently used. Approximately 68 percent of the positions are presently using these 30 titles. Universities can add position titles by using the core title as a benchmark for additional titles. These changes should allow more flexibility to the campuses.
The clerical and support skill level chart will be adjusted upward by 4 percent, effective January 1, 2005. This will improve Tech’s competitiveness in hiring.
Ms. Pogue stated that these improvements in the plans will make the system more efficient and provide a better fit in job classifications and hiring eligibility.
The meeting adjourned at 2:05 p.m.
