"Week
Of Welcome Activities"
The Week of Welcome is Tennessee Tech's way of showing students
why it's great to be a Golden Eagle. The students are finally
here; their things are moved in, then what? This is where
the Week of Welcome comes in! During this week students
are presented with various activities to get acquainted
with campus life - before the classes start to get hectic.
Students have the option to learn about Greek life, spiritual
organizations, intramural athletics, and college life in
general.
The department of Residential Life relishes the opportunity
to hit the ground running during the Week of Welcome. All
RAs on campus get to know their residents as soon as possible
with floor meetings. Each RA planned an event for the night
before classes started to introduce themselves to residents,
as well as introduce residents to each other!
As an employee of Residential Life, one great thing I notice
about the first week of school is the interaction between
different campus departments. Everyone working for the university
reaches out to students to get them involved in any way
possible. But for some, all it takes is a bit of free food.
Ask any college student what they remember most, and surely
it will be the free food! Between the Residential Life sponsored
"Dancing on Dixie" concert and a carnival on the
Quad, plus countless activities sponsored by other organizations
on campus, there is plenty of great food and fun, as well
as new people to meet. Let's not forget about Tech Night
at Wal-Mart; a.k.a. Wally World to the articulate Tech students.
This tradition involves cheering, raffles, and free food!
Wal-Mart is a must-have one stop shop here in Cookeville,
and Tech Night at Wal-Mart is always a great success. If
a student is looking to take part in the spiritual community
of Tech, the Religious Organizations Fair is the place to
be. What ever floats your Tech student's boat will be at
the Week of Welcome!
