"Residence
Hall Renovations"
As you may or may not have noticed, residence halls on
Tennessee Tech’s campus have undergone many improvements
since the summer of 2006. The Office of Residential Life
has been investing money on its buildings to make them more
pleasing to students who will be residing there. Replacing
windows, adding new fire systems, carpeting floors, and
bettering the general appearance of the buildings are just
a few of the things that have been done.
Within Pinkerton Quad, Jobe/Murphy has received new carpet
and paint in the hallways. The building's fire system has
been updated and sprinklers have been installed. New paint
has covered the hallways of MSCooper/Pinkerton and a sprinkler
system has been installed. Pinkerton lobby has a brand new
flat screen television, and all rooms in MSCooper/Pinkerton
have new windows with screens. As for Marshall/White, a
new flat screen television has been placed in White lobby.
And in the newest addition to Tech housing, New Hall, there
has been an addition of new room number plates to all rooms
and new paint in the South Wing.

Capitol Quad has benefited from many improvements
as well. Browning/Evins, Maddux/McCord, Ellington/Warf,
and Cooper/Dunn have all had sprinkler systems installed,
as well as a flat screen television in one lobby per building.
Cooper/Dunn and Browning/Evins have both received new windows
with screens on the 7th Street and Stadium Drive sides of
buildings, respectively. Maddux/McCord and Ellington/Warf
have received new windows in the stairwell and bathroom
areas. The bathrooms of Crawford Hall now have a new coat
of paint.
In addition to all of the improvements made to the inside
of the residence halls, Residential Life has also made some
improvements to the outside areas of the buildings as well
as refined some of their policies. Both Pinkerton and Capitol
Quads received 2 picnic tables a piece. The tables in both
quads are located in central areas accessible by all of
the buildings. This summer, all of the glass security doors
entering the residence halls were cored so that the residents’
room keys will open them. These doors will be locked at
midnight every night as an added security measure and only
a key for that building will be able access the door. Security
phones were placed at these doors should a lockout or other
emergency occur. Crawford Hall is also in the process of
having new shower partitions installed in its bathrooms.
The main office will soon be reaping the benefits of a program
called StarRez, which is software that is designed to aid
in reservations and has many applications that will be useful
for the department.

With coordinator approval, students will
be able to hang dry-erase boards on the outside of their
room doors. Decorations may also be placed on the outside
of doors, as long as no more than 25% of the door is covered.
Students need to call their appropriate Residential Life
coordinator to schedule an appointment to have their dry-erase
board approved. For Capitol Quad, call Andrew Moneymaker
at (931) 372-6312. For Pinkerton Quad, call Joshua Edmonds
at (931) 372-6313.
Soon to be in the construction queue, the building Marshall/White
is to be demolished this summer according to current plans.
This being the current engineering hall, a new building
will be chosen to assume role of engineering specialty housing,
however which building is yet to be determined. Also this
summer, Crawford Hall will be having a new fire system and
sprinklers installed. Residents of MSCooper/Pinkerton Halls
can be expecting new carpet in fall 07’.
