Elizabeth
S. Murphy was born at Algood,
Tennessee on February 4, 1916. She married to
James William Murphy on November 10, 1943 ---
by whom she had two children, Anne Elizabeth and
James William, Jr. She received a B.S. degree
from George Peabody College for teachers in 1938
and a Masters degree from the University of Tennessee
in 1941. After teaching in both the elementary
and high schools of Tennessee, she was employed,
1941-1943, at David Lipscomb College in Nashville,
TN. From 1944 - 1946 she was an associate professor
of the Home Economics Department and served as
Dean of Women at Tennessee Tech.

Jobe was born at Shiloh, Tennessee
on September 6, 1903. Her early education was
received in the elementary and high school of
Clarksville. She then entered George Peabody College
for Teachers at Nashville from which she received
a B.S. degree in 1924 and a M.A. degree in 1929.
Her first teaching experience was here at TN Tech,
1924 and 1925. She then transferred to the State
Teachers College of Jacksonville, Alabama, and
remained with that institution 1925-27. In 1927
she returned to Tennessee Tech. In addition to
being a professor in the Department of Health
and Physical Education, she was made acting dean
of women 1928-39 and dean of women 1939-45. |
