You can subscribe to the latest TTU news quickly and easily using RSS feeds - this means you can have TTU headline stories and announcements automatically delivered to your desktop.

RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication, allows users to choose TTU News feeds in a simple, organized and timely manner.

RSS feeds are free to all web users, but you must use a browser that provides an RSS reader or you must download an RSS aggregator in order to subscribe to TTU News. Internet Explorer is one browser that requires an aggregator. RSS allows you to review the headlines and decide which stories to read, without having to surf the Web or scan through multiple pages of a favorite site for news. Firefox users can automatically sign up to receive RSS feeds by clicking the orange icon XML logo at the top of this screen. The new Mac browser Safari RSS, which will be included in the soon-to-be released Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger," also will have automatic RSS capability built in. If you do not use either of these browsers and prefer to view TTU's RSS news feeds with an aggregator, paste this URL into your aggregator or reader: http://www.tntech.edu/publicaffairs/rss/ttu_press_releases.xml

Free RSS aggregators include: RssReader, Sage, SharpReader and Bloglines.

How Do I Use This Feed?

The first step, as described below, is to choose an RSS reader. Each reader has a slightly different way of adding a new feed (also called a "channel"). In most cases, here's how it works:

  • Open the RSS feed you want to join in a browser window
  • From your browser, copy the URL that appears in your Address Bar of the browser
  • Paste that URL into the 'Add New Channel' section of the reader.

You should be all set! The RSS feed will start to display and regularly update the headlines for you.

To receive the feed, you will need a news reader, or RSS aggregator. Many free and commercial aggregators are available for download. Use your favorite search engine to find the one you prefer. Once your news reader is downloaded, installed, and open on your computer, you can subscribe to TTU's RSS feed by right-clicking (Windows) or option-clicking (Apple) on the RSS button, copying the link into your clipboard, and then pasting it into the subscription field of your RSS aggregator. Your news reader program will fill up with the latest news headlines from TTU. To read the full story, simply click on the headline.

Podcast PAD Logo
A podcast is bascially an RSS feed for audio (or even video) content. Again, you will need software that will auotomatically check and download podcasts. Apple's iTunes software is one of many free programs available and is available for both Mac and Windows platforms. When you subscribe to TTU's news podcast using your software of choice, all of our audio press releases will be downloaded to your computer in Quicktime MP4 format.
