COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 15, 2007) — A bachelor of fine arts senior thesis exhibit in fibers by Cara Young will be on display from Nov. 21 through Dec. 3 in the North Windows Gallery of the Appalachian Center for Craft. The exhibit is titled “Nemutte Naosu,” which is Japanese for ‘get rid of by sleeping.’ A reception for the artist is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 24. Young’s current body of work is a study in line and color layering using Japanese batik methods of rozome (wax resist) and bokashi (graduated dyeing) on silk. These techniques result in a dreamy atmosphere with transitions of vivid color. The Appalachian Center for Craft is located approximately six miles from Interstate 40 at Exit 273 (Smithville/McMinnville). Go south on Hwy. 56 and turn left immediately after crossing Hurricane Bridge. This drive leads to the Craft Center. For more information, call the Craft Center at 931/372-3051 or visit its web site at www.tntech.edu/craftcenter/.
