Hanessian Texture exhibit on display through Sept. 30 at Craft Center

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 28, 2007) — Texture, an exhibition of sculptural assemblages and book objects by mixed media artist Holly Hanessian, runs through Sept. 30 in Gallery One of the Appalachian Center for Craft.

The objects presented in this exhibit are from a series Hanessian has been working on for the last 10 years, in which she explores ideas about the book as an intimate, personal object.

“The work I’ve created uses a well-worn book motif, combined with personal reflections based on my own narrative of why and where we end up in life,” she said. “Is it luck, fate or the result of choice?”

Hanessian is an associate professor at Florida State University.

The Craft Center is located approximately six miles from Interstate 40 at Exit 273 (Smithville/McMinnville). To get there, go south toward Smithville on Highway 56 and turn left immediately after crossing Hurricane Bridge. This drive leads to the Craft Center.
