COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (June 16, 2006) — Patricia Hutchings Broyles
and Angela Rector, second and third from left respectively, donate line
drawings of White County’s former Hutchings College and house of
its founder, Ransom I. Hutchings, to Tennessee Tech University’s
Angelo and Jeanette Volpe Library. TTU library representatives accepting
the gift are, from left, Mancil Johnson, Winston Walden and Christine
Jones. The drawings, made by Betsy Fox, will be preserved in the TTU library’s
archives. The college, which opened in the early 20th century in the western
White County community of Cassville, closed in 1923 but boarded between
75 and 125 students a year during its existence. At least two former TTU
faculty members were graduates of the college. Photo: TTU
