COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (March 22, 2005) Guest artist Ying Akkos, a freelance
teacher and performer in the Los Angeles area, will present a flute recital
at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 1, in Tennessee Tech University’s Wattenbarger
Auditorium.
A Center Stage event, the show is free and open to the public.
On Saturday, April 2, she will lead a series of master classes for regional
high school and college musicians.
Akkos is from Shanghai, Peoples Republic of China, and is the daughter
of Ming Li, former principal flutist of the Shanghai Symphony.
She attended the Shanghai Conservatory of Music and won the China National
Flute Competition (high school division) in 1985. After graduating from
the Shanghai Conservatory, she was named principal flutist with the Shanghai
Festival Orchestra.
Akkos came to the United States in 1990 and earned a music performance
degree from TTU. While a student here, she won several awards, including
the Music Teachers National Association Collegiate Artist Competition.
