Virginia Plummer Reception Room unveiled in TTU's Johnson Hall

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 8, 2004) — The recent unveiling of the Virginia W. Plummer Reception Room in Tennessee Tech University’s Johnson Hall presented a dramatically transformed room to guests who gathered at a reception in Plummer’s honor.

The College of Business Administration, housed in Johnson Hall, played host in the room that now features new flooring, wall and ceiling treatments, and new antique furnishings including an elegant mahogany dining room table from Franklin, Tenn.

“With the naming of this newly renovated reception room, we are extremely excited about recognizing Virginia Plummer for her long-time commitment to Tennessee Tech and our college,” said Robert Niebuhr, TTU’s College of Business Administration dean.

The Plummer Reception Room also contains a commissioned side chair embossed with the TTU presidential seal and the name, “Virginia W. Plummer.” A focal point of the room is a dogwood oil painting painted and donated by Plummer.

A former faculty member for 37 years, Plummer is well known for her community work with the Lions Club and the Red Cross. In 1997, she and her husband, Bruce, endowed the Virginia and Bruce Plummer Scholarship for business students. She is a member of the university’s Visionary Society and has served many years on the College of Business Administration’s Board of Trustees. She also received the university’s 2000 Outstanding Service Award.

More than 170 friends and family members, past and present faculty members, staff and graduates attended the catered event in the newly renovated room. Guests included two former Lions Club international presidents.

"As a friend of Virginia Plummer and Louis Johnson for many years, I'm very glad that this great addition to Johnson Hall happened while I was here at the College of Business,” said Pat Quillen, TTU’s College of Business director of development.

Receptions for special events and recruiter luncheons will be held in the Plummer Room.
