COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (Nov. 16, 2004) —Tennessee Tech University’s concert choir and chorale will host a candlelight Christmas concert at 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, in the Wattenbarger Auditorium of the Bryan Fine Arts Building.

The program is billed as a blend of “lessons and carols,” featuring TTU Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs Leo McGee reading from texts by secular writers exploring the meaning of Christmas, with the choir and chorale performing songs and traditional carols highlighting the themes of the readings.

Among the works McGee will read from are The Meaning of Life by Maya Angelou, Christmas Carols by Phillips Brooks and Keeping Christmas by Henry Van Dyke.

The choir and chorale will perform such traditional carols as “Joy to the World” by Isaac Watts, “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” by Charles Wesley and “Silent Night” by Joseph Mohr. Among the other songs included in the program are “How Still He Rests” by Brent Pierce and “Christmas Day” by Gustav Holst.

The White County High School Chorus will join the TTU singers on stage for a portion of the show.

Admission for the concert is $5, and advance tickets are available by calling 931/372-3165. Tickets will also be available at the door.

The program will be conducted by Randall Hooper, TTU’s director of choral activities.
