COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (March 10, 2004) – Tennessee Tech University’s
math department will present a guest lecture by Professor Andrzej Lelek
of Southeast Missouri State University at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23,
in Bruner Hall, Room 306.
The topic of his presentation will be “Strange Objects in Topology.”
Lelek will describe unusual geometric constructions that appear and reappear
in different areas of mathematics.
After receiving his Ph.D. from the University of Wroclaw, Poland, Lelek
worked for 10 years at the Polish Academy of Sciences Institute of Mathematics.
He then went to the University of Houston, becoming the editor of the
Houston Journal of Mathematics in 1975. He retired from there in 2000.
Lelek’s presentation is free and open to the public.
