COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (March 31, 2004) – Tennessee Tech University’s
Brass Arts Quintet will present a multimedia concert featuring musical
animal stories at 8 p.m. on Monday, April 5, in the Wattenbarger Auditorium
of the Bryan Fine Arts Building.
The show, which is free and open to the public, will feature performances
of “Peter and the Wolf” by Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev
and “Animal Ditties” by American composer Anthony Plog.
Joining the quintet to narrate “Peter and the Wolf” will
be Rick Woods, Director of Cookeville’s Leisure Services.
Melody Sotis, art teacher at Baxter’s Cornerstone Middle School,
is the featured illustrator of the concert. Her premiere showing of original
drawings will highlight the humorous “Animal Ditties,” based
on limericks by poet Ogden Nash.
Brass Arts Quintet Coordinator Charles Decker said the group is excited
to have Sotis and Woods participating in the multimedia experience. “The
combination of sight and sound, mixed with a healthy dose of humor and
the much loved story of “Peter and the Wolf” will make a memorable
evening,” he said.
TTU music faculty who will also be joining the group for the performance
include Jonathan Good, conducting; Paul Thurmond, piano; and Joseph Rasmussen,
percussion.
Members of the Brass Arts Quintet are Charles Decker and Chris McCormick,
trumpets; Greg Danner, horn; Joshua Hauser, trombone; and R. Winston Morris,
tuba.
The Brass Arts Quintet has appeared on nationally broadcast concert specials
for public television stations, and the group’s latest recording
— “Shazam!” by Mark Records of Buffalo, N.Y. —
will be available for purchase at the concert.
