Student Environment

Students who major in physics at Tennessee Technological University have the opportunity to learn their physics in small classes, all taught by Ph. D. physicists, with frequent access to the Physics faculty outside of class.  This tutorial atmosphere allows for a great deal of personal attention to be given to each individual student, an environment which is further enhanced through student participation in research.  A study room is available in the department for students majoring in physics; this allows 24-hour access to a quiet study area and to two Internet-connected personal computers.

The Society of Physics Students (SPS) is a national organization for undergraduate physics students; membership is voluntary and open to all interested students.  The TTU chapter typically sponsors several activities during the academic year, including social events, student research papers at meetings, seminars by visiting scientists, and various projects designed to increase public awareness of science.  We also have a local chapter of Sigma Pi Sigma, the national physics honors society and invite qualified students to join each year.

Each student is carefully and individually advised to assure that he/she receives the best possible preparation, at the proper pace, for his/her career and life objectives.  Detailed programs of study are given in another menu and in the TTU Catalog.
