Did you ever stop to think about how our
offices and facilities speak volumes to customers before
weve even had the opportunity to say a word? With that in
mind, what sort of first impression might your office make on a
prospective student? Below are some tips to help your office be
more welcoming and make a great first impression.
Tips for Making a Great First Impression
- Try to set office hours that match
students needs. If you routinely get late or early
visitors, consider changing hours to accommodate them.
- Be sure people can find you. Post
adequate signage and offer directions, even on your voice
mail.
- Try to keep the main entrance door to
your area open, if possible. If it must be closed,
consider posting a welcome sign on the door itself.
- Try to reduce wait times as much as
possible. If students must wait, try to make waiting
areas comfortable and inviting.
- Provide a private area for dealing
with sensitive issues.
- Think about the needs of all your
guests. Whos accompanying those whose needs you
primarily serve parents, grandparents,
younger siblings? How might you accommodate their needs?
- Decorate in ways that complement the
image of the university. Keep visible clutter to a
minimum.
And remember that making a great first
impression doesnt have to be costly either. Even the most
elaborate and expensive decor simply cant top a friendly
face with a welcoming smile.
