About
The Department of Music and Art at Tennessee Tech provides
an intellectual and creative environment for the study and production
of the visual
and performing arts. The faculty emphasizes quality instruction,
both collective and individualized, embraces innovation, and
acknowledges the role of technology in meeting the academic and artistic
needs
of the students. The Department prepares students for careers
in music and the visual arts, enables students to enrich their lives
by participating in music and art activities, instills in all
University
students an appreciation of music and the visual arts, and broadens
the cultural perspective of the community, state, and region.
For
Art students, the Department
offers the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with options in art education,
painting and, through the Appalachian
Center for Crafts,
programs in ceramics, fibers, glass, metals, and wood. Music
majors pursue the Bachelor of Music degree with options in instrumental
and vocal licensure, as well
as programs of study in composition, instrumental, piano and vocal
performance, and jazz.
An outstanding resident faculty of 32 artist/teachers provides
instructional and artistic guidance
to our students. Not only is the faculty committed to teaching,
but
it is also dedicated to excellence in research and creative activity.
An on-campus concert and
exhibition calendar of over 150 annual events provides something
for everyone to enjoy. In addition to events in Cookeville, faculty
members perform and exhibit regionally, nationally, and/or internationally,
and receive worldwide acclaim for the level of their artistry.
