Fuel Cell Laboratory

Fuel Cell Lab (FCL): The Fuel Cell Laboratory has a wide range of fuel cell component fabrication and characterization equipment. Since our current research efforts focus on solid oxide fuel cells, most of the facilities are ceramic powder and pellet synthesis equipment. Virtually all kinds of oxide ceramics can be prepared in our lab. In addition, a dip coater, manufactured by KVS Instruments, provides the capability of sol-gel processing of oxide coatings for fuel cell applications. The fuel cell characterization facilities include:

  • Two controlled-environment (Air, Ar/H 2, etc.) DC 4-Point conductivity measurement systems with heating capability to 1500 ° C and with DC power supply (Keith Instrument CurrentSource Meter 2000) and the Digital Multimeter (Keith Instrument).
  • Three existing single-cell test stands and one stack testing facility currently under construction for evaluating various fuel cell components
  • One impedance spectroscope (Solartron) for characterizing the electrochemical performance of fuel cells.
