| Mechanical Engineering Programs
The M.E. Department offers two programs: (1) a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) and (2) a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME). A common Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in engineering is offered through the College of Engineering.
The BSME program is accredited by ABET – the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. ABET is the recognized accreditation agency for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology, with over 2,700 programs offered by over 550 colleges and universities currently being accredited nationwide. In addition, the University as a whole is accredited by SACS – the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, via its Commission on Colleges. SACS is the is the recognized regional accrediting body for eleven U.S. Southern states for those institutions of higher education that award associate, baccalaureate, master's or doctoral degrees.
The MSME program, in addition to University-level accreditation by SACS also undergoes a periodic evaluation by external reviewers as per the requirements of THEC – the Tennessee Higher Education Commission via TBR - the Tennessee Board of Regents.
