This is a full-time, grant-funded position to last twelve (12) months.  The position is renewable for up to two (2) additional years depending on employee performance and receipt of external funding.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required: Ph.D. in Ecology, Conservation Biology, Fisheries, Hydrology, Geomorphology, Geography, Environmental Engineering, or a related water resources field; Ph.D. must not have been received earlier than three (3) years prior to start date; knowledge of ArcGIS and computer programs such as R, SAS, Python.

Preferred: Experience with watershed modeling; fish/wildlife population or habitat modeling; landscape and ecosystem ecology; and/or southern Appalachian flora, fauna and ecosystems.  Prior experience drafting or reviewing habitat conservation plans, environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, or incidental take permits.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Serve as a member of the Cumberland HCP Science Advisory Committee at TTU as we develop multi-species habitat conservation plans for the northern Cumberland Plateau region of Tennessee (see www.cumberlandhcp.org). Interact with regional scientists and conservation planners as a member of the Water Resources HCP Core Team, and with faculty mentors Dr. Hayden Mattingly (Biology) and Dr. Evan Hart (Earth Sciences) at TTU.  Provide modeling and statistical guidance to establish a conservation program covering commercial/residential development and other growth-related activities in three counties and associated municipalities (25%).  Develop a model of the effects of residential and commercial development on >20 endemic/state/federally protected species (35%).  Help design long-term adaptive management and monitoring plans (30%).  Present results at scientific and technical meetings, author portions of the habitat conservation plans, and publish results in scientific peer-reviewed journals (10%).  

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Salary is $44,000.  Benefits include the accumulation of two vacation days per month and one sick leave day per month, and thirteen (13) University holidays. Other benefits include medical and life insurance (shared cost with the university), retirement, and optional 401k.
