What are the benefits of joining a Greek organization?
Memberships in Greek organizations offer many benefits.
Leadership- Membership in a Greek organization provides students with the opportunity to develop leadership skills through chapter leadership, event planning, leadership conferences, and nationally recognized leadership development programs. Greek membership also opens doors to leadership in other areas of campus life such as SGA, Orientation leaders, and honor societies just to name a few.
Scholarship- All TTU fraternities and sororities place strong emphasis on academic success. They have scholarship plans that reward members scholastic achievement and provide assistance for members who need help with courses. The Office of Greek Life assists with scholarship and provides support to Order of Omega, a Greek honor society for men and women of impressive scholastic performance. In addition, many fraternities and sororities offer local and national scholarships to help pay for education expenses.
Service- TTU Greek Life believes in giving back to the community.
- Greeks donated over $40,000 to charitable organizations and approximately 10,000 hours of community service in 2007.
- During Greek Week 2008, Greeks donated 2,254 pounds of toiletry supplies to the American Red Cross.
- Greeks are instrumental in the planning, implementation, and success of the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life on Tennessee Tech's campus. During Relay for Life 2008, Greek teams raised and donated more than $14,000.
Friendship- One of the most valuable experiences in college is meeting new people. Greek organizations share bonding experiences through service and social functions, intramural sports and participation in a number of campus activities, such as Homecoming. The bonds shared through Greek membership last a lifetime. |
