Government Publications, Maps & Microforms Department |
Popular Collections at TTU
The Library selects extensively in the areas of agriculture, education, environmental protection, fish and wildlife, water resources, geology, as well as publications from the Bureau of the Census and the U.S. Congress. Publications from the Appalachian Regional commission and the Tennessee Valley Authority are also selected for the collection due to their regional emphasis.
The government publications at TTU vary in format. All paper copies are located in the University Library on Level 2 in either the government stacks (on shelves), map case drawers, vertical filing cabinets, or periodicals shelving. Most electronic formatted publications are in the Media Center, with a few in the Water Center. All publications in electronic format (CD-ROMs) are in the Library's online catalog. Publications issued on microfiche (flat plastic cards) are in cabinets in the government publications area of Level 2, and consist of a wide range of subjects including Federal Register, Congressional publications, and some journals (located in the periodicals cabinets). Microfilm reels are also located in the same general areas as microfiche.
A complete listing of publications available within the Library is available using location feature of the MARCIVE CD-ROM located in the reference area of the University Library. This indicates the items this Library selects at this time, but does not take into account the items selected in previous years, if different than now.
The following is a brief list of some of the popular specialized collections.
