The Department of Foreign Languages is located on the second floor of South Hall, at the southeast corner of the beautiful main quadrangle. The Department has a modern Language Learning Center, with an up-to-date, 30-station computer lab. The Learning Center also includes a quiet study room, a student lounge called the Euro Cafe, and a foreign languages library..
For FL students’ convenience, our computer lab is open 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday through Thursday and 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Fridays. There is always a Lab Assistant available to answer questions and give assistance when needed.
The study room provides a quiet, comfortable atmosphere in which to study, but it is also used for our three main club festivals every fall. Each year the German Club, Der Deutsche Klub, hosts Oktoberfest with delicious, home-cooked German dishes. In late October, the Spanish Club, Amigos, celebrates El Día de los Muertos. The annual Française Soirée is sponsored by the French Club, Avant Garde, and features wonderful dishes from French-speaking countries. All three clubs sponsor many other events throughout the year, including conversation hours, service projects, and special showings of foreign films.
The adjacent Euro Café provides a relaxed atmosphere for students to gather between classes and is also used during festivals and club meetings. The Café offers access to several foreign language TV stations, including SCOLA news network, TV5 Monde (French), Univision and GalaVisión (Spanish), and Deutsche Welle TV among others. In addition, foreign language films are shown frequently throughout the semester in the Euro Café.
Come and check out the Department of Foreign Languages for yourself. We think you will like what you see. For more information or to schedule a tour of the Department of Foreign Languages, call (931) 372-3432. We hope to see you soon!
