KINSLOW ENGINEERING RESEARCH AWARD

The Kinslow Engineering Research Award is given annually for the best paper written by a TTU engineering faculty member and published in a refereed professional journal during the previous calendar year. The author of the paper is awarded a plaque and a monetary award, and his or her name will be listed on a permanent plaque located in the College of Engineering .

The award is given in honor of Professor Emeritus Ray Kinslow who taught for 32 years at Tennessee Tech. During 25 of those years, he also served as head of the Department of Engineering Science and Mechanics. Professor Kinslow, in addition to being an excellent educator and administrator, was a prolific researcher, especially in the area of hypervelocity impact.

A committee of four judges, chaired by the Associate Dean of Engineering for Graduate Studies and Research, will select the recipient from nominations made by faculty and administrators in the College. The other members of the committee will consist of the previous year's award winner, an engineering faculty member from the College elected by the faculty and the Dean of Engineering or his nominee.

Any full-time TTU engineering faculty member holding professorial rank, including instructor, regardless of age, is eligible. The selection criteria will include research innovation and research applicability.

A letter of nomination and five copies of the paper or reprints must be submitted by January 12 of each year to:

Associate Dean of Engineering

for Graduate Studies and Research

Box 5005 , TTU

372-3172

A nominator may nominate only one candidate and a single paper by that candidate. Self-nominations will not be accepted. In the case of multiple authors, the nominator, in consultation with the authors, shall declare the principal author. In such cases the nominator should also clearly identify the contribution of the nominee.
