The award, established in honor of Dean Emeritus James Seay Brown and the late Dean James M. Henderson, first Dean of the College of Engineering, may be awarded annually to a member of the Tennessee Technological University engineering faculty for outstanding service while employed at Tennessee Tech.

The award consists of an honorarium and/or a plaque/medallion and a listing on the permanent plaque in Clement Hall.

The award will be for outstanding performance in teaching and research or service.

1. Recognition for teaching may include but not be limited to: outstanding performance in the classroom and/or laboratory; development of new methodology; curriculum/laboratory innovations; and student advising.

2. Recognition for research may be based upon an outstanding career in research performed at Tech or on a single significant research accomplishment. Research may include the formulation of fundamental theories, the creation of knowledge or the dissemination of results through notable applications.

3. Service may be to the community or the profession. It may include contributions to the broad spectrum of continuing education and professional development.

Any person who is a full-time Tennessee Tech College of Engineering faculty member shall be eligible for nomination provided that he/she satisfies the following qualifications:

1. A nominee shall have been a regular Tennessee Tech full-time employee for three academic years.

2. A faculty member shall be ineligible for nomination if he/she has won the award in any of the last five academic years.
