2004-2005 was a very successful year
for our faculty and students. Below is a summary of their successes.

Dr. Thomas Timmerman received the college's Excellence in Overall
Performance Award.

Dr. Ramachandran Natarajan received the college's
J. E. Owen Award for Excellence in Research.

Dr. Rodney Carlson received the college's Lifetime Achievement Award.

Ms.
Rachel Starnes, departmental secretary, received
the college's Outstanding Staff Award.

Dr. Bonita
Barger received the University Overall Teaching
Award.

Dr. Bonita Barger, Assistant Professor
of Management, is the recipient of a grant
from the U. S. Fulbright Scholar Program
to Lithuania's ISM University of Management
and Economics for the 05-06 academic year.

The
Distance MBA class taught by Dr.
Bonita Barger was host to Governor Phil Bredesen.
The governor participated in one session
of the Virtual Leadership Class.

Dr. Bonita
Barger presented research findings
at the Eleventh International Literacy
and Education Research Network Conference
on Learning in Havana, Cuba, and participated
in the Oxford Round Table at St.
Antony's College in Oxford, England.

Dr. Stuart
Wells, MIS Professor,
has developed a Computer Forensics
Research Facility with a grant from the College
of Business. This facility aids
law enforcement agencies in the
13 th Judicial District as well
as the FBI.

Dr.
Curtis Armstrong,
MIS Associate Professor,
and a team of students
developed the Southern
Association of Colleges
and Schools (SACS) website
for TTU.
-
Dr.
Curtis Armstrong,
Director of the Governor's
School for Information
Technology Leadership,
followed the Governor's
initiative and successfully
extended TTU's Governor's
School. The school incorporates
a new model whereby students
will receive college
credit for two courses
while attending Governor's
School.

A departmental
task force led by
Dr.
Curtis Armstrong approved a proposed
Business Information
Systems Major. The
proposal will be
sent through College
and University units
beginning Fall 2005.

Dr.
Curtis Armstrong,
MIS Associate
Professor, supported
a Tennessee Board
of Regents initiative
by developing
a web based computer
application that
is used for strategic
planning in all
TBR institutions.

Dr.
Gary Pickett,
Chair of the
Department
of Decision
Sciences
and Management,
was asked
by President
Robert Bell
to chair
his new committee
of all University
Chairpersons – the
Council of
Chairs.

Professor
and Sports Researcher
Dr.
Tom Timmerman has developed a popular Special Topics
Course titled “Sport Management” which
filled to capacity Spring 2005 semester.

Dr. Rodley Pineda accompanied
the SAM
Student Group to
Las Vegas
for the annual student competition.

Dr. Christine Miller has
been re-elected Treasurer of Southwest Academy of Management.

Dr.
Brian Jones, MIS Assistant Professor, served as
Committee Chairperson for ICIS (International
Conference on Information Systems).

Dr. Jack Matson, Associate Professor of DS,
participated in the TBR Academic Audit Review
pilot process.

Drs.
Bonita Barger and Ramachandran Natarajan joined
with visiting Geier Professor Dr. Reginald
Yu-Lee to design and deliver an MBA Special
Topics course, “Strategic
Management Analysis.”

Among his extensive research projects,
Dr. Tor Guimaraes, Chairholder
of the J. E. Owen Chair of Excellence,
was able to develop a course in “Managing
Retirement Funds” for
TTU's Continuing Education
Program. He also helped
plan a course and accompanied
a student group to his
native Brazil.

Dr. Ramachandran Natarajan, Professor of Decision
Sciences, presented a paper at the 2004 Conference of the
Global Manufacturing Research Group at Savanci
University in Istanbul, Turkey. While
abroad he also made
presentations at the Administrative Staff College of
India in Hyderabad and the Indian Institute
of Management in Bangalore.
