| What
I need to do as a Faculty member?
All we ask for is your cooperation and for you to follow the requirements
of the Americans with Disabilities Act. YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES ARE
VERY LIMITED. We ask you to encourage students
with disabilities to contact the Office of Disability Services
if you or they feel, that they may have a disability as
defined under the ADA. (Include this on your class syllabus.)
As a faculty member you will be required to follow the accommodations
that are based on the student's documented disability. These accommodations
will be determined by the Office of Disability Services. The student
will bring you an official Accommodation Form (AF) at the
beginning of each term that spells out what these accommodations
are. If there are any comments or concerns on these official accommodations,
please contact the Office of Disability Services at 372-6119.
You do not have to determine what the disability
is or to come up with accommodations on your own. As a matter of
fact, the only way that you can provide accommodations to a student
who has not provided documentation to our office is to provide that
accommodation to all students in your class. Types
of Disabilties
You may be required to provide extra time on tests and/or
quiet testing facilities. You may choose to provide these accommodations
yourself, or our office will provide them for you. If a student
is to test in our office, the student must schedule it 48 hours in advance of the test date and time. The student will bring you a Test Request
Form at least 36 hours before the test. You will need to agree to the testing
time by completing your section on the Test Request Form, and sending it along with the test to our office at least 24 hours before the test is to be administered. The completed test will be delivered
back to you as soon as possible. Other accommodations require very
little on your part. Most accommodations are as simple as allowing
a student to use a tape recorder in your classroom or helping the
student find a volunteer notetaker. Once again, if there are any
comments or concerns on any official accommodations, please contact
the Office of Disability Services at 372-6119.
Thank you for your continued cooperation.
